Day 93 - the mouse game and eating cheese (ie Tues 14th June)

Great night sleep, was really tired from long day travelling.  Christoph had his daughter home so it was lovely listening to her talk in German with me trying to understand.  We had breakfast together then she and I played a couple of games (one being the mouse game) - variations on the usual board games and memory.  I think she kept forgetting I speak English but somehow we got through 3 games with plenty of smiles.

Christoph had all the maps and information I needed for the day to go off site seeing  He suggested I catch the train to Uetliberg and from therer walk up to the highest point of Zurich for a panoramic view.  As it was such a clear day the view was spectactular, so I stayed there awhile and then went for a walk in the woods however I didn't get far as the path I took led me to a person's home!

Anyway, the exercise did me good (Betty wouldn't liked it as there were so many stairs!)  I met an Australian couple from Yarrawonga at the top of Uetilberg, and we compared travel stories.  I then took the train into Zurich city centre and spent the afternoon looking at the sites.

Zurich is so pretty.  There are gorgeous cobbled streets in the old town that runs parallel with the Limmat River, running into lake Zurich.  All the designer labels are here but I only window shop.  I feel like such a back packer!  Here I am wandering around the land of the beautiful people who are immaculately dressed and groomed, and I am in birkenstocks that are 4 years old (and look it!), long travel shorts and sloppy t-shirt.  My hair needs a wash and all I have on my face is sunscreen.  I need to make more of an effort!

Sorry all, appears to be a problem uploading photos from my end - either get colour distortion, or not all the photo appearing.....anyway, not certain what you are seeing your end so adding anyway.

I just wandered the streets for hours, checked on the lake boat tour times and costs, bought a quiche for lunch (over $10!!), then went to the famous Zurich shop Sprugli for Luxemburgerli - filled macaroons.  I got a small box as I knew Christoph loved them - they are traditional for the area and delicious.

I took a tram car back to Christop's just as it started raining and found him in bed unwell.  We decided to delay our night out to dinner and had a quiet night in, eating for dinner a picnic of Swiss cheeses, bread, olives and a glass or two of frrench red.  Very yummy.  We also chatted on skype with his parents.  I have not seen their faces for 19 years.
