As I didn’t get uninterrupted” photos of Charles Bridge, I got up at 6.15am and walked half an hour to see it early and with very little people. I spent an hour looking at the statues properly and taking photos. It was really overcast - I hope I have 1 or 2 good shots out of all the ones I took.
I walked back to the hotel, collected a coffee on the way, and had breakfast. I am a little over bread, cheese and meat now so just had muslie. Next couple of hours were spent hand washing, researching Budapest (ie arrive late at night so wanted to works out where the hotel is and how to get there), downloading photos and skyping (love seeing my munchkins!).
Next stop was the main railway station to buy train tickets for Kutna Hora – going there tomorrow for a few hours, buying tickets for train travel in Prague, clarifying Prague to Budapest bus ticket, withdrawing koruna, etc. It is amazing how much time this all takes – really looking forward to when Al is travelling with me so we can share the tasks.
The afternoon was spent exploring parts of Prague I hadn’t seen yet – Prague Castle gardens, John Lennon’s wall and Kampa Island. There are still parts of Prague that I have not set foot on – you really need a week here to do it justice. Do come (if you haven’t been already), this place is awesome!
I bought a marionette, not the most expensive one I had my eye on ($450.00!!) but a lovely one all the same. Maybe it is impractical to take in the backpack but it is wrapped in bubble wrap – I will get more and re-wrap. If James and Leeroy can get Moroccan lights back to Oz in one piece, I can do so with a marionette!
Asked around for recommendations for a good local restaurant and was given a name but then came across the place next door that had a lot of people so chose it instead. I’m trying to balance having decent food and cost, and am pleased to say that Prague is a place you can do just that. I would love to try duck but the places that I have been so far don’t serve it or I just didn’t think they would do it justice. I’m having pork and chicken schnitzel tonight served with potatoes and pickles, washed down with beer.
I am surprisingly not tired despite being up really early and the long walks. I think I just get excited, and a little nervous, about moving on. Oh...the plan for tomorrow is train to Kutna Hora for the morning, then back to Prague to catch a 3pm bus to Budapest – Hungary is country # 32!
