Day 110 - Pinch and a punch for first day of the month (1 July 2011)

Max, the owner of our accommodation service, put on a great breakfast – sliced meat and cheese, bread, apple tarts, jams, and proper coffee from his coffee machine.  The weather was pretty overcast so Al and I went on a walking tour of the town.  There are so many laneways to explore, churches, small galleries and cafes and restaurants.  The tourist information had given us a great brochure that explained the various sites.

Ramparts of the old town

At about 12 light misty rain started so Al and I decided it was beer oçlock.  We had a couple and the rain did not go away so we stayed at the cafe and ordered their meat and cheese platter, and a jug of white wine.  It really was fabulously tasty and reasonably priced.

Next stop was the hotel as the weather still wasn’t too good, to check out the tennis.  I fell asleep and 3 hours later!!! (Only second nap my whole trip), found out I missed totally one match of the men’s finals.  We then watched a little more tennis until it was quite late and we headed out for some dinner.  We had read about a local restaurant so decided to try it – the food was excellent, the service needed some work.  Both of us had a great bean and corn soup (very Italian as thick and flavoursome), and starter serve of pasta that was huge!
A storm came in whilst we were at dinner, the wind was howling and it was spitting rain.  Back at the hotel it was hard to get to sleep with the sound of the wind, but then again I wasn’t really tired!!
