Day 116 - Zadar to Trogir

On the road again!  We were up, packed and on the local bus to the main bus station in record time.  Al and I were of the belief at the start of this trip that we would be able to catch ferries down the Croatian coast but it has not been the case.  Either there is only one ferry a week, or they take so long as stop off a lot on the way, that it isn't worth it.  Oh well, the buses have been big, comfortable and pretty good price wise.

Our trip from Zadar to Trogir took about 3-4 hours.  Again, it was incredible seeing the coastline and the blue-green water.  The towns aren't anything spectacular to look at, but the coast is.  The mountains follow the coastline which makes a great contrast.  The whole coast seems to be continually populated with locals and holiday makers either swimming in the water, sunbaking, or sailing/motoring past in boats of all shapes and sizes.

We arrived in Trogir after 1pm, and found our way fairly easily from the bus station to the apartment, walking along cobbled streets, past shuttered windows.  Our apartment is located in the heart of the old city (most towns along the coast have an old city which ends up being the place to visit tourist wise and also the area with the most character).  Trogir is a UNESCO site, and is located right on the harbour and there are many yachts and cruisers pulled up at the marina.  A castle is the main focal point of the harbour, and a great point for orientation.

When we arrived at the apartment we had to go and pick up keys from a travel agent.  I took off to do this whilst Al minded the bags and in that time she met one of the staff in the restaurant who encouraged her to sit at one of his tables so she was in the shade.  By the time I got back, he had the beer open.

The travel agent had told me that the best place to go for beaches was a short 15-20 min boat ride away - boats go on the hour and there are a couple of different boat companies.  So, that is what we did as the water looked so inviting.  On the boat across to the local beach a couple and their daughter told us of a small island called Drvenik Mali that they said was really lovely.  We decided to go check it out the next day.  Anyway, we spent the rest of the afternoon lying on the beach and swimming - the water is heaven.

Back from the beach in the early evening and after showers, we went down to the restaurant downstairs for dinner.  They do homemade pasta, and it was delicious.  The staff at the restaurant are lovely and just so friendly.  They also know how to do their job - in contrast to other places we have been to along the way!  Trogir has a gorgeous feel to it - Al and I are so happy we are here for the next 5 nights to really enjoy the place and have a break from the constant moving.

Photos will come later :-)
