First time on this trip I have had a buffet breakfast including hot and cold items. Unfortunately the quality of the hot items wasn’t too crash hot, will stick with muslie, fruit and yoghurt tomorrow. The weather is spectacular so we packed our bags and headed down to the beach. There is a promenade that follows the water, and along it are beaches exclusively linked to certain hotels, but also public areas where you can either roll your beach towel out on the concrete – no sand to lie on, or do as Al and I did, rent a plastic beach lounge and umbrella (only cost $5 each).
The water is incredible, as I previously said. It is really clear, and unlike Slovenia, no rocks to negotiate over. There was also no seaweed but a lot of fish swimming around. The water is quite salty, but also very calm (lack of any waves). We must’ve spent 4 hours lazing in the sun. Al has lent me the book ‘Water for Elephants’ and I am devouring it. There are a number of tourists around enjoying the water and sunshine as well - so many accents around me I barely pay attention but am always aware.
We headed back to the hotel about 2pm so that we could watch the Wimbledon men's final. It took awhile to find what tv channel it was on (watching our Stoner come third in the motorcycles first), then we camped out. I went for a beer run at one stage but we only got one beer at a time as there was no fridge. Whilst out buying beers I also checked out a bathers store downstairs and ended up buying a pair - really good value, and the funniest thing was that there were 2 girls from Melbourne in the changing rooms beside me. We heard each others accent, then had a long travel conversation!
Disappointing end to the tennis, i was going for Raffa and Al was going for the Joker. We had a shower then headed out for dinner. We had read of a place close by that was a fishing village, where foodies reportedly love to go and eat. We walked around the coast to this village, passing a number of gorgeous buildings that are in desperate need of love and money for restoration.
Volosko, the fishing village is really small and quaint and it took about an hour to walk there from our hotel as we had a number of photo stops. There were a number of bars and a couple of restaurants in Volosko, we settled on the one that seemed to have the best range of seafood. The meal was amazing, I had octopus for entree and seabass with pumpkin polenta. The wine was local and divine! It was probably the most expensive meal that I have had since Zurich, but well worth it.
The walk back to the hotel after dinner was a great opportunity to see the area at night - we walked along the promonade and felt totally safe. It was a lovely night, and the walk was good to aid digestion!!
