Not a good sleep. I stepped on a sea urchin the day before - actually only caught the side of my left foot on it. I didn't think much of it at the time although there was blood. During the night though it was so painful, and I woke up every time I bumped it. Al and I both have anti-septic cream which I am using.
Anyway, the plan today was to head to Split to see the old town. We caught a 10am bus and arrived in Split about 35 min later. Split has a population of over 90,000 and is a lot more built up than our beautiful Trogir.
Split - the old town is a Diocletian Palace which was started in 298AD and took 10 years to complete. Each main gate is located in the centre of each outside wall and is named after a metal - iron, golden, silver and brass. It was lovely walking around and exploring but it was also incredibly hot so we were searching for shade any opportunity we got.
Here are some photos:
At about 2pm we caught the bus back to our have - Trogir as we were way too hot and over battling hoards of tourists to see things. I did buy a new pair of birkenstoks in Split - mine were dead and I really needed a comfortable pair of walking sandals.
Back at Trogir we went to collect our washing (heaven for me, first time not handwashing in a month!) then caught a boat down to the local beach to cool down in the Adriatic Sea. The water is beautiful and cool, clear but also very salty so keep your mouth closed!
The bad thing about meeting people from the local restaurant is that you keep on going back and ignore other places. Kristian Pizza has become our second home, we have made friends with the owner and the staff (his sons). The food is excellent and it only takes 30 seconds to stagger to bed. Tonight was the pizza - only think I don't like is the olives, just not up to the standard of those in Morocco and Turkey.
