Julien and Maria came up with the idea of a day away in York. Maria hadn't been before but had been told wonderful things about this town. My Ma and Pa also raved about it and I can see why. It really was very quaint, as it is a very ancient city enclosed within 2 miles of medieval walls. Once again the weather was brilliant so a perfect day to stroll the city and see the following sites:

The York Minster |

Grounds around the York Minster |
The streets around York are cobbled so you really do feel like you have gone back in time. Again, having all the blossom trees, tulips and other flowering plants out is really special.
Here are a couple of other photos:

I'm really pleased that we had the time to just wander around York and soak up the atmosphere.
Next we decided to stop into somewhere for a drink on the way back to Warrington, and Maria found this place, the Tempest Arms in Elslack that won the best pub food of the year in 2009 (very big wrap considering the number of pubs in the UK!!). We skipped food - Maria had a couple of ales and me ciders, Julien was driving:
Another brilliant day out in the UK and place to say I have been to (York).
