Day 60 - Galway to Dingle

I knew this would be another long driving day.
Again I took off about 9am and after traffic jams in Galway (couldn’t believe the rush-hour traffic!), I hit the road bound for the Cliffs of Moher.  It took about 2 hours to get there (yes, a couple of photo moments along the way – just as well I am travelling by myself, I would drive another person crazy unless it was Mardi!!)  I liked the Cliffs of Moher, but to be honest, think the 12 Apostles are better. The Cliffs of Moher rise 214m at the highest point.  It is very touristy (but I am a tourist!), with bus loads of people, and there were brief showers.  I was hoping for a decent walk around but that wasn’t possible as the track south was blocked.

I knew I had a long way to go today so focused more on driving rather than taking photos and seeing all the sites.  Two weeks in Ireland is not enough – even if I had someone to share the driving with me, Ireland still needs longer to do it justice.  Note for all of you out there planning a trip to this lovely place.
I took another car ferry, this time the trip went for 20 minutes from Killimer to Tarbert, across the Shannon River.

Once back on dry land it was a great straight and quick drive as for once on a road that was a little wider and straighter than usual.  There were a few times I thought my Fiesta would be airborne – road definitely wasn’t smooth.  I made it into Dingle at around 4pm.  This is my place to stay for the next couple of nights and I plan on sleeping in, and enjoying being in on spot.
Thanks Ross, Stacey and Alison for Dingle – it is a quaint sea-side town full of character, and the B&B is just as good.  Driving into Dingle I came via Connor Pass – 456 meters high, between Mt Brandon (951m) and Mt Beenoskee (825m).  Unfortunately there was a hazy view due to the misty rain so will go into this pass again if the weather clears.

I parked myself in a pub, had a Bulmers and dinner, and caught up on my diary.  I will have a break from driving tomorrow – petrol is expensive and my knees hurt from the manual car.  I just want to walk and enjoy the fresh air.
