Off to Dublin today! I was up just after 5am to get out to Heathrow. Everything went smoothly.
I am staying with a friend of a friend in Dublin the next two nights. She is recovering from the chicken pox (poor love). I really feel disorganised as I don't have any accommodation booked from Wednesday but am hoping Nicola in Dublin will give me good advice on where to go and what to see.
I found my way to Nicola's place and we spent the next couple of hours planning my Ireland trip. Her advice combined with that from Alison and Emma has been great.
Nicola's friend was picking her up to take her on a drive to see the renovations to her holiday house out in the country. I was invited so went along. The sun is shining so it was lovely being out. I got various sites of interest pointed out to me along the way and we had a picnic in the sun for a late lunch. On the way back we stopped at an old cemetary and for a 99'r - soft serve ice-cream in a cone with a flake.
Once back at Nicola's I went for a wander to explore the area and pick up takeaway for dinner. I was really tired and had an early night.
Note: travel essentials.
1) Vicks Vapour Rub - I have always carried it on me when I want to mask the smells around me eg particularly bad toilets and when people are throwing up on a ferry around you, but have realised the benefits when tired and need to try and wake up a bit - put a smear under your nose...a little like a shot of caffine.
2) bringing a power board with me has been brilliant....thanks for whoever suggested it, cause often only one power point but still have the capacity to charge computer, camera and phone!
3) currency converter cards (thanks to SIL when she suggested it all those years ago for Thailand...I am now onto my 4th currency in 7 weeks and as maths has never been my strong point, the cards are brilliant.

Don't know yet if it is just Dublin or Ireland that is famous for the coloured doors, but I love them! |
