Day 157 - A teary farewell to Olly, Pat and the UK

A teary morning saying goodbye to Olly and Pat.  Olly was a sweetheart and went totally out of her way to drive me to Heathrow – she did try to get away with taking my denim jacket but I was onto it!
I am really really sad leaving UK and Europe.  There is still so much to see and do...but then again I am so very grateful that I got to spend quality time with old friends and making new ones (you all know who you are J), whilst seeing so many brilliant places.  Truly has been a memorable trip – might sound bizarre but in so many ways I just want it to continue.
The flight from London to Singapore was long (12 hours), but overall uneventful.  I was again lucky that I had no-one sitting between me and another woman so we had more room to spread out.  I was really excited to be able to see the film “Water for Elephants”, but was disappointed.  The book was so much better.  I also watched “Shakespeare In Love”(a lot of it filmed at the Globe Theatre in London where I went with Olly), and then I watched a number of episodes of Mad Men as have never seen it before – it is good.  Unfortunately I did not sleep a wink.
After 3 hours in Singapore, where I could change currency (yet again!!), purchase duty-free gin and stretch my legs, I boarded a flight for Kuala Lumpur.  By this stage I had been without sleep for at least 18 hours – I had a coffee but didn't do much.

Was on a small plane from Singapore to KL - flight took only about an hour.  I had every intention of catching public transport from KL airport to the hotel, but as I still had not slept (about 20 hours without sleep) and was feeling really tired, decided to catch a taxi instead (stuff the expense!!)  It was wonderful arriving at the hotel - a really big room, bathroom and kitchette.

I did the usual thing ie unpacked a little, then headed to the supermarket for supplies (ie mixer for gin, water, juice, nuts, etc).  I would've loved a nap (about 3pm by this stage) but the hotel is undergoing renovations and it was too noisy.  I headed to the pool on the 18th floor, has a refreshing swim, then fell asleep on the sunlounge.  Luckily it started raining, or I might've got really sunburnt!!

The rain hosed it down, so I spent late afternoon and early evening having a couple of gins then a very early night in bed.  Ah heaven to sleep in a big comfy bed!!
